London United U16 start their European campaign
United’s U16’s endured a real baptism of fire in the European Youth Basketball League (EYBL) in Budapest Hungary as they opened their international campagin. London United is the only British representative in the EYBL, which is the highest International league for top European clubs.
The young Londoners paid a heavy price for their relative inexperience on an international stage losing to Tapiolan Honka, Finland 56-82,KK Feniks, Macedonia 67-96 and Zsiros Academia, Hungary 77-94.Their sole victory came in a game against BDSE Graphax, Hungary where the Londoners ended up on the right side of a78-60 result. Despite three defeats, the young players from London registered plenty of good individual performances with Kevin Szczawinski finishing as the 3rd top scorer in the entire competition
Coach Szatkowski was very upbeat when he delivered this verdict “At this stage for sure results are not most important. This is a very talented but also very inexperienced especially on international level group. Playing in EYBL is the best thing that can happen to them in terms of their education both on and off the court. We already had prolonged periods of the games where we played really well. I’m sure that with some more experience and training together we will be far more competitive during our next tournament in February.”
