LBA College Tournament Champions
Our academy attended the LBA end of season College tournament at the Olympic venue, Copper Box in Stratford on Thursday 27th of April.
Our U18’s faced 3 opponents during the initial stage of the competition, collecting 3 wins against Quintin Kynaston (44-23), Lambeth College (25-11) and Ealing & Hammersmith (14-13). After a clean sweep of the competition we progressed to the semi-finals to face SFX College, claiming another win in a very up tempo game with couple of dunks from Carl Campbell.
In the final our team faced the only other unbeaten team of the tournament, John Ruskin Academy.
We jumped to an early lead 15-4 and controlled the game throughout, however a resilient John Ruskin team made a come back and 40 seconds to go the score showed 24-22. Our boys stayed composed in the last moments of the game to secure LBA end of season Colleges title for 2017 (25-22) with our captain Afra Khalil voted MVP of the tournament.
Head Coach Daniel Szatkowski said:
“It was great day out and I’m happy that our team collected this title. I had chance to rotating every player and provide much needed minutes in preparation for next season. The competition was much higher than expected and lots of teams in LBA end of season College Tournament are underrated. There was lots of talent on display. Thanks to Tony and Luke for the invitation.”
