United back in the Senior game

After a one year hiatus London United will re-join senior competition for the 2017/18 season.

After a one year hiatus London United will re-join senior competition entering NBL Men’s Division 4 South West for the 2017/18 season. Entering senior competition is part of a strategic decision to build a very strong youth project with a very comprehensive National and International playing schedule. The team will be based on young players born 1998 and younger which will combine playing in Division 4 with competing in the European Youth Basketball League (EYBL) and U-18 National League competition.

London United Senior 2Director of London United Emma Chambers further explained the philosophy of the project saying “Integral to our programme is the development of young players through providing them opportunities, experience and exposure to allow them reach their potential. The inclusion of senior competition for the next season provides our players based at Alec Reed Academy an unrivaled and comprehensive competition schedule for with the opportunity to compete in Europe, Senior NBL, U18 NBL Premier and U19 ABL competitions.

London United are the only British representative in the EYBL, which is the highest International league for top European clubs. For the first time for the 2017/18 season we will be entering teams in two age categories for players born in 1998 and 2001.

It is a real logistic exercise to send our teams for a minimum of four trips to Europe alongside all other domestic competitions and creates a punishing schedule. However, there is no other way to create players ready for the demands of the professional game.

Moving to our West London location has been a true revelation for us in terms of recruitment opportunities. Our base at Alec Reed Academy has allowed us to create the right competitive environment for our players which is pivotal for our development plans.”
