Summer in the City

Future Stars recognises that summer in the city can leave young people with a large amount of free time and little to do. Taking part in physical activity and getting fit can also be expensive for a large amount of young people. To address this problem we launched a project involving a series sporting sessions delivered in five different locations around the London Borough of Ealing free of charge for young people aged 10-16 to join. The programme is run in conjunction with Catalyst Housing Association and Ealing’s Youth, Connexions and Play Department and fully funded by the Big Lottery Fund

The sessions were based on sport of basketball with the aim of helping young people increase their levels of physical activity and keep fit over the summer break. All sessions were led by professional coaches from London United Basketball Club.

Head Coach of London United, Daniel Szatkowski said “Working with Future Stars is very beneficial to both organisations and together have delivered a programme which engages a lot of young people. Instead of waiting for them in our sports halls we have actively gone out to meet young people in their own local environment. The sess

ions have been a success with more than 20 kids of various ages and ability attending different locations. Some of these young people have got involved as they want to get fit, others are there as they want to participate in any form of sporting activity but others want to genuinely take sport further and more seriously.”

It is still not too late to get involved as the sessions are continuing throughout the entire Summer break until 1st September 4:30pm – 6:30pm at the following locations;

cmyk_big_blueMondays at Northolt Park, Newmarket Avenue, UB5 4XE
Tuesdays at Friary Park, Acton, W3 6NL
Wednesdays at Rectory Park Ave, Northolt, UB5 6SE
Thursdays at Dormers Hub, Southall, UB1 3JH
Fridays at Windmill Estate, Southall, UB2 4UZ

There is no need to book, just turn up and join in.
