United win season opener

London United Basketball Club

London United Alec Reed Academy have started their competitive season in the AoC Men’s Premier Cup on a very positive note, beating COHENEL 76-70. United started the game in rather cavalier fashion taking 22-8 lead after the first quarter. United was not able to extend their advantage and at the beginning of the fourth quarter were leading by a 10 point margin. In the last stanza a very lively home crowd was able to carry the athletic COHENEL to reduce the margin to a mere 4 points. However, United captain Ellias Poorman took control of proceedings with 7 consecutive unanswered points to restore parity. Victor Olereni made a very encouraging performance playing his first competive game for United, leading all scorers with 20 points.
Coach Szatkowski was modestly optimistic when he delivered his verdict “I’m very glad that we have won and showed quite a lot of potential. We are deeper than last year and this excites me a lot. However, we need to work very hard to make this group gel together and be able to compete for 40 minutes.”

Scorers:
V.Olareni 20, E.Poorman 14, K.Szczawinski 10, D.Golovcenko 10, D.Mills 10, K.Kolesnikovas 10, K.Hines 7, M. Edwards 2
