London United end Taunton’s Domination

London United traveled at the weekend knowing very well that only victory against previously unbeaten Taunton can realistically extend their chances of winning Division 4.

Our young Londoners started moving the ball very well and shooting from outside with great accuracy. Taunton utilised their advantage inside the paint and scored a lot of points after offensive rebounds and put backs. The first half finished with United holding a slender three points lead and understanding that only an increased defensive pressure could offer them the realistic hope of overcoming Taunton. The second half was the scene of by far the best defensive display from United since the beginning of the season. Trio of speed merchants Ellias Poorman, Afra Khalil and Victor Olarerin wreaked havoc amongst Taunton’s guards forcing numerous turnovers. United managed on five different occasions to force an 8 second violation and started to finish their fast breaks with aplomb. In the fourth quarter, United built a 14 points margin which proved to be the decisive moment of the game. United intelligently managed the last 3 minutes of the game sailing to a very important 74-86 victory.
