United start Division Two with a Win
London United has started their Division Two campaign with a relatively routine away victory against NASSA. United started slow allowing NASSA to maintain a small lead in the first quarter. A flurry of scores from United midway through the second quarter, led by player-coach D. Szatkowski, changed the momentum and allowed United to take a 9 point lead at the half. Despite efforts to cut the deficit, United kept East London at arms reach. United’s case was greatly helped by E. Poorman closing down offensive threat from D. Whitebread and incredible contribution from D. Rudik coming off the bench. A solid run to start the fourth quarter and domination on both boards from M. Talijunas and T. Butrimas ended all NASSA’s hopes of a comeback, as United took the 71-90 spoils.
Player-coach D. Szatkowski led his side in the win, with 18 points as he went a perfect 7-7 from the floor. Szatkowski’s scoring output was matched by D. Rudik, who also added two steals. M. Krasauskas contributed 16 points, while A. Khalil and M. Talijunas added 11 and 10, respectively.
Our Senior Division Two team are back in action this weekend as they face the City of Birmingham rockets in the Mens National Cup.
