U14 win NBL Premier South Division

Our U14s have made yet another step forward in their fantastic season by winning the South Premier Division. The young Londoners had to wait to the last game of the regular season to secure the top spot in the league which they did in style! London United beat Richmond Knights 74-22 in the game which was effectively decided as a competitive contest after the first half when United held a 25 point advantage.

In hindsight it is absolutely clear that vital to the overall success was an away victory (70-56) against  Bristol Flyers. After losing to Sussex Bears a couple of weeks prior, United was in the position that any additional defeat would deny them of the top spot in the league. The pressure was quite visible in the first half of the game against Flyers with both teams committing numerous turnovers and struggling for fluency. In the second half, United reached to their trusted weapon of a full court press and it started to pay dividends. United’s guards started to force numerous turnovers which led to easy points scored from the fastbreaks. In addition, the usual suspects of Liam Campbel and Joshua Eccleston received greatly welcomed support from reserve Marcus Haymer allowing United was able to establish a double digit margin which proved to be decisive to the outcome of the game.

Delighted Coach Kelson was quite direct in assessing situation of his team: ”This is an absolutely fantastic group to work with. These guys are working so hard on and off the court that success comes for them quite naturally. We are now entering an absolutely crucial part of the season when we have to combine play-offs in both domestic competition and EYBL. This will be a fantastic experience for all of us.”
